A proven advocate for West Virginia families

Ted Boettner was born and raised on Charleston's West Side and attended Capital High School and West Virginia University. He and his wife Rebecca are raising their two children, Lucy and Sid, in District 17.

Ted co-founded the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy in 2007, where he worked alongside communities and lawmakers to raise the minimum wage, expand affordable health care, protect workers, and improve food security. Today he serves as a Senior Researcher at the Ohio River Valley Institute, using data-driven research to advance economic development.

A lifelong community leader, Ted enjoys hunting, coaching his son's youth soccer team, and serving as an elder at Kanawha United Presbyterian Church. He is an honorary member of the Southwest District Labor Council's Labor Hall of Fame and has served on the boards of Cabin Creek Health, Legal Aid, and the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority.

Ted is running because he's tired of seeing state leaders ignore the real struggles of everyday people. He believes in fully funding public schools, expanding good union jobs, fair taxation, and putting working families first.

Priorities for a Better West Virginia

Reliable, Affordable Energy

West Virginians deserve energy that's dependable and doesn't break the budget. Ted will fight for policies that keep the lights on and utility costs manageable for working families.

🏫

Fully Funded Public Schools

Every child deserves a great education. Ted supports full funding for public schools, rolling back privatization, and putting math and literacy tutors in every classroom.

💼

Good Jobs & Stronger Unions

Ted will lead efforts to bring union jobs back to West Virginia, expand collective bargaining and apprenticeship programs, and create opportunity that keeps families here at home.

🏥

Accessible Health Care

Skyrocketing health care costs are driving families out of West Virginia. Ted has decades of experience expanding access and will continue that fight in the legislature.

⚖️

Fair Taxation

The tax burden falls too heavily on working families. Ted supports a fair system where everyone — including the wealthiest — pays their share.

🛡️

Safer Communities

Every West Virginian deserves to feel safe. Ted will work across the aisle to address crime, addiction, and the economic conditions that fuel them.

"For too long, politicians have kept us divided while they serve the wealthy and well-connected. Meanwhile, working people are paying more and earning less. I will fight for lower costs, good jobs, affordable energy, and a government that works for regular people. We can do better." — Ted Boettner, Candidate for West Virginia State Senate
